ZAATARI, Jordan (AP) ? Britain's prime minister says newly re-elected President Barack Obama must do more to end Syria's civil war, urging him to join the U.K. in opening direct talks with rebel fighters.
Touring Zaatari refugee camp in northern Jordan, home to more than 33,000 people who have fled Syria, David Cameron said Wednesday that the U.K. planned to change its policy and deal directly with opposition military leaders. Previously, Britain has had contacts only with exile groups and political opposition figures inside Syria.
Cameron says "there is an opportunity for Britain, for America, for Saudi Arabia, Jordan and like-minded allies to come together and try to help shape the opposition."
Cameron says that in talks with Obama he would stress "we must do more to try and solve this crisis."
