The 2013 DC Arts and Humanities Grants Are Here

Yesterday, the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities released its list of 2013 grant recipients.?The total value of this year's grants is up, from $3.7 million for 2012 to $4.2 million for 2013.

Some notable figures: Studio Theatre is getting about $206,000 in grants this year, divided between four different grant programs. Gala Hispanic Theatre received about $98,000 spread out across three different grants. The Trustees of the Corcoran Gallery of Art, meanwhile, received close to $50,000, most of that ($18,000) as part of the commission's Arts Education grant program. Also significant: Hip-hop education organization Words Beats & Life scored more than $155,000, and tweed-ride group Dandies and Quaintrelles got zilch, though probably not just because City Paper shamed the city so hard for it last time.

DCCAH has not released specifics on how the grant money is supposed to be directed. All we've learned so far is that The Avalon Theatre Project, which hasn't received grant money from the city for several years, is getting $100,000 to pay for an elevator. We'll have more later. In the meantime, check out the complete list of 2013 grant recipients.
